Compare the Ford F-150 and RAM 1500 near Newark, NJ

More than just America's favorite pickup, the Ford F-150 has been the top-selling overall vehicle in the country for over four decades. Such a track record isn't possible by sticking to the status quo. It's Ford's ceaseless commitment to innovation that keeps the F-150 at the top of its class, where it has continued as a mainstay and standard-setter for all full-size trucks.

While the segment offers plenty of serviceable options for Union, NJ, drivers to choose from, the F-150's Built Ford Tough capability and cutting-edge features make it a formidable foe for any competitor. Here's a quick look at how it compares in a few key areas to another prominent segment nameplate, the Ram 1500.

Ford F-150 vs. Ram 1500: Performance and Powertrain Options

Ford offers the F-150 with a variety of powertrain options available across its trim levels, ensuring customers can easily choose their perfect mix of performance, efficiency, and value. Standard on XL and XLT models, the base 3.3-liter V-6 (290 horsepower, 265 pound-feet of torque) is ideal for lighter work, with a max trailer rating of up to 8,200 pounds1. The Ram 1500's comparable 3.6-liter V-6 (305 hp, 269 lb-ft) generates a bit more power, but its max towing rating falls short at 7,750 pounds.

If you need more power and capability for larger Linden, NJ tasks, the F-150 offers four more powerplants, each with 400 or more pound-feet of torque.

  • Standard on LARIAT and available for XL and XLT, the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 (325 hp and 400 lb-ft) can tow up to 10,100 pounds1.

  • Standard for KING RANCH and Platinum and available to all supporting tiers, the 5.0-liter V-8 (400 hp, 410 lb-ft) boosts the F-150's max tow rating to 13,000 pounds and enables a best-in-class available payload rating of 3,323 pounds1.

  • Standard on LIMITED and optional on all supporting tiers, the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 (400 hp, 500 lb-ft) boasts a class-leading max tow rating of 14,000 pounds1.

  • Available to all F-150 models (except off-road-focused models, TREMOR and RAPTOR), the 3.5-liter PowerBoost Hybrid V6 isn't just an overbuilt "mild hybrid" system. It's the first full hybrid in the full-size truck segment, generating 430 hp and 570 lb-ft, with a max tow rating of 12,700 pounds1.

All but the Ram 1500's top-tier Limited trim come standard with the base V-6 engine. A 5.7-liter V-8 (395 hp, 410 lb-ft) is offered, but it's only standard on Limited models and unavailable to the base Tradesman tier. Its tow rating tops out at 11,590 pounds, or 12,750 in the optional eTorque mild-hybrid variant. Likewise, the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 (260 hp, 480 lb-ft; max towing: 12,560 pounds) isn't offered on the Ram 1500's base trim.
