Why Buy Used?

Used SUVs like Ford Edge, Escape, Explorer, and Expedition can be a good purchase strategy when you need a newer vehicle, but a new one isn't in the budget. New vehicles have a high sticker price because they are brand new. Add to that sticker price the options or option packages you want, and you have just inflated the new sticker price by hundreds, or even thousands of dollars, only to lose some of that value immediately when you drive the vehicle off the lot. Within the first month of ownership, that value can decrease by up to 10 - 15% from value depreciation, and up to as much as 35% or more within the first year of ownership.

Additionally, you have to pay a sales tax on your vehicle purchase. The amount you pay in sales tax is based on the sales price of the vehicle. Higher vehicle values also means you may pay more for insurance, so your monthly premiums are higher.

With a used vehicle, the sticker price is lower, depreciation is slower, and sales tax and insurance premiums are lower as well. Generally, you'll also have smaller monthly car payments, and depending on the loan you get, you may have a shorter loan term as well. Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles

For Ford vehicles to be a quality CPO, there are certain requirements that Ford imposes. They must meet the following criteria to be considered a CPO:

  • Must pass a 172-point inspection (139-point for Blue Certified vehicles).
  • Have a Clean Vehicle History Report.
  • Must be less than 6 model years old (for Gold Certified).
  • Must have fewer than 80,000 miles on the odometer (for Gold Certified).
  • Blue Certified can be up to 10 model years old and can have up to 120,000 miles on the odometer.
